Committees
NC APCO committees are the engine behind the chapter's work. From recognizing outstanding members to advocating for 911 policy, supporting our peers through difficult moments, and investing in the next generation of professionals — committees are where the real work happens.
For the first time, NC APCO committees are open to every active chapter member. You don't have to be on the board to have a voice. If you're passionate about this profession and want to do more than attend the annual conference, this is your opportunity to get directly involved.
Committee members play an active role in shaping the direction of the chapter and the future of public safety communications in North Carolina. Whether you have years of experience or are newer to the profession, there is a place for you here.
To be eligible, you must be an active member of APCO International.

Audit Committee
The Audit Committee provides independent financial oversight for the chapter. Each year, the committee reviews the chapter's financial activities from the prior fiscal year — including all relevant documents and records provided by the Treasurer and Immediate Past President — and delivers a full-findings report to the Board along with any recommendations for improvement. The committee consists of at least three non-board members, including at least one commercial member, ensuring an objective and well-rounded review process.
Awards Committee
The Awards Committee leads the chapter's annual member recognition program. Each year, the committee solicits nominations from the membership, reviews nominees, and recommends award recipients to the Executive Board. Recipients are honored at the North Carolina Public Safety Communications Conference each spring.
Compassionate Care Committee
The Compassionate Care Committee supports chapter members through life's significant moments — critical incidents, illness, loss, and celebrations alike. Committee members may send cards, reach out to individuals or communications centers, or deliver tokens of condolence or congratulations. This committee is for members who want to show up for the 911 community in a personal, meaningful way.
Education Committee
The Education Committee plans, coordinates, and supports training opportunities for North Carolina's public safety communications professionals. Committee members help organize the annual Telecommunicator Training Symposium held in the fall and assist in soliciting and selecting educational sessions for various annual events.
Interfaith Critical Incident Support Network
The NC APCO ICISN is a statewide initiative that provides chaplain-led interfaith crisis support to 9-1-1 professionals following significant critical incidents. Designed to complement - no replace - peer support and clinical resources, the network offers immediate, compassionate care that respects all belief systems, including no-faith perspectives.
Legislative Committee
The Legislative Committee monitors state and federal legislative activity affecting public safety communications and advocates for policies that support the profession. Committee members keep the Board and membership informed of relevant legislation and help coordinate advocacy efforts when the 911 community's interests are at stake.
Nominations Committee
The Nominations Committee manages the chapter's nominations and elections processes from start to finish. Committee members assist with soliciting candidates, vetting nominees for eligibility, and administering a fair and transparent election in accordance with chapter policy. This committee plays a critical role in upholding the integrity of chapter governance. The Committee shall consist of a minimum of four members, with the Immediate Past President serving as the Chair to include three members who have previously served on the North Carolina APCO Board of Officers.

Policy Committee
The Policy Committee is responsible for developing, reviewing, and maintaining chapter policies to ensure they remain aligned with the chapter's bylaws, mission, and strategic goals. Committee members work to create policies that are clear, consistent, and practical — and regularly evaluate existing policies for continued relevance and compliance. Recommendations for new or updated policies are brought to the Executive Board to address evolving needs and reflect current best practices in chapter governance.
Scholarship Committee
The Scholarship Committee administers the chapter's scholarship program to support members pursuing education and professional growth. Committee members develop application criteria, review submissions, and recommend scholarship recipients — helping to invest in the next generation of public safety communications professionals.
